Madonna University

Founded by the Felician Sisters of Livonia in 1937, Madonna University is a Catholic university in the Franciscan tradition committed to teaching, scholarship, and service. The University's educational philosophy is founded on the Franciscan spirit, which encounters God in the whole of creation, manifested by people, events, and nature.

The Social Work Program offers its B.S.W. degree program to students in Northern Michigan via interactive television (two-way audio/video) through the University Center in Gaylord. Designed for transfer students, the part-time program may be completed in 2 1/2 years with classes scheduled to accommodate the working adult student. The Gaylord Social Work Distance Learning program replicates the main campus part-time degree completion program and is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.

Since 1975, Madonna University's Sign Languages Studies Department has offered a Bachelor of Art in Sign Language Studies. Graduates of the program are working in diverse settings that allow them to incorporate their knowledge and skill in American Sign Language and Deaf studies. Among them are interpreters, teachers, social workers, family counselors, community advocates, gerontologists, and nurses. Students have double-majored in a range of disciplines including psychology, education, nursing, criminal justice, computer science and additional areas in the social sciences, humanities and business fields to further support their ASL abilities.
