Life Long Learning

The University Center Gaylord offers a wide variety of community education classes for youth and adults who wish to expand their learning and skills through non-college credit courses that are available throughout the year. Course offerings have included Computer classes…Beginner, Word, EXCEL, Powerpoint, Quickbooks, Foreign Languages, Photography, Dog obedience training, Financial topics, Summer adventure classes for kids and More!

We are currently offering the following learning opportunities: 

Youth Summer Camps

Our summer camps will connect young people ages 8 to 13 with nature, science and technology through hands-on activities, nature hikes, art and games.    

Blast Off Rocket Camp: 

This three-day camp will provide an opportunity for your child to build and learn how rockets move through space by designing, creating, and flying their very own rocket.  Data will be collected each day to help improve their rocket design for the final group Blast Off Competition!!!!

June 25 – 27

9:30 a.m. – Noon (ages 8 – 10 )

1:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. (ages 11 – 13)


Technology Meets Nature Camp: 

This three day camp will transform the University Center’s surrounding natural areas into the classroom.  Campers will learn about the unique plant and animals of northern Michigan through participation in the Hunger Games, nature hikes, and species inventories.  They will also have a hands-on opportunity to learn about the everyday technology that is being applied to helping us understand the importance of our natural world.

WeDo Lego Camp:  

Do you Love LEGOS?  Are you 8 to 10 years old?  If, yes, then this 3-day camp is for you! You will discover how to apply science, technology, engineering and mathematics by building LEGO models and using LEGO WeDo 2.0.  This camp will enhance your creativity, logic and problem-solving skills.

July 16 – 18

9:30 a.m. – Noon


Lego Robotics:

This level 1 class is an introduction to Lego Mindstorms. The camp will focus on introducing students to programming, using the Mindstorms software and working with basic sensors. On the final day of class, students will use what they have learned to complete challenges of varying difficulty.
